Non-profit organizations have increased dramatically in number and type over the last half-century. With the advent of the Internet and its explosion into the everyday lives of millions of people, the ability to circulate information, marshal resources and collate/distribute relief efforts constantly reaches new levels.
Using their Internet browser, the average person can access information and referral resources for literally hundreds of maladies within seconds. Blood bank donation, CPR classes and new parent/neonatal training are other examples of non-profit organization functions that can be accessed via the web. This is possible, by-and-large, through a process known as search engine optimization (SEO).
Search engine optimization (SEO) works when an organization, working in collaboration with an SEO service, produces a list of “keywords”. The keywords are either very specific to the area that the non-profit organization is primarily concerned with or focused on, or general keywords related to the field in question.
The SEO service employs consultants, online marketing specialists and various and sundry copywriters who write text (articles, blogs, advertisements, multi-media advertisements, etc.) that includes and disburses those keywords throughout the text. When the person enters one of the keywords into the search engine, they are directed to links and/or websites that provide them access to the information they are seeking. The more specific the keyword is, the narrower and more focused the search results will be.
An example of how SEO services and the SEO process can benefit a non-profit organization (NPO) would be an NPO focused on providing support for the developmentally disadvantaged. An individual could access information on the types of developmental disabilities and the availability of local assessment resources. The website could also include the types and scope of assistance resources, potential domiciliary arrangements, vocational training and education, and even employment referral and assistance.
As the vast majority of non-profit organizations are — at a minimum — eligible for government funding subsidies, the website could also include contact information for any government agencies that may provide additional assistance to the person or their family. It might be used for recruiting other individuals, organizations and potential employers to assist the NPO, as well. Medical care providers, ancillary medical support services and assisted living care providers are but a few examples of those who could provide additional and necessary support for the NPO’s clients.
Individuals who are developmentally disadvantaged have statistically proven to be an outstanding employee pool for employers to draw from. They are characteristically hard workers who are punctual and consistent in their attendance records; they apply themselves with considerable and consistent effort to assigned tasks. Employment not only increases their sense of self-esteem and self-worth, but reduces the fiscal drain on social service organizations by allowing them to provide for their own financial needs. It can serve as a very positive public relations asset as well as assisting the developmentally disadvantaged person to become a fully functioning member of a community and society as a whole.

Alanna thank you so much for taking the time to post. I know sometimes I read something and find myself wanting to say “hey great job” but feel silly since it may not be earth shattering or creative enough. But you know any comments or hello’s for us is wonderful. It re-enforces our goals. That being said the goals of any blog is to get readers to engage and the fact you did means I am on the right track. Thank you so much for your kind words. We are uploading additional blogs in the coming weeks so please do come back.
